Stockholm Syndrome or poor interpretaion?
All right, I feel the time has come to speak about Stockholm Syndrome in the context of Ulquiorra and Orihime’s relationship =_=
That’s not like I want to start a holy war with anti-shippers, I don’t really give any fucks about them. I just want to clarify something people often forget during their shipping rage.
Lets look at it just from the outside: it’s a friggin’ SHONEN MANGA, like it will deal with such an ambiguous thing as Stockholm Syndrome. Like it’s all about friendship and compassion and - wham! - suddenly a neurosis. The story about Ulquiorra and Orihime (even without any shipping issues, calm your tits) perfectly coincides with the main idea of the manga as it is, and narrowing it down to a mere psychological deviation is depriving it of its narrative meaning. It’s as stupid, as, for example, trying to explain Nietzsche’s philosophy all from the point of his mental problems. To my mind it’s kinda like an insult to the author, ya know. It’s like people are “I don’t wanna understand watсha sayin’, so I will think it was a bad dream”. Like hell it was! It’s a STORY, there is NO meaningless interactions between characters. And Ulquiorra and Orihime’s interaction is a good demonstration of the whole shonen philosophy of how the Heart overcomes everything, even death and nihility. And that’s why people see the possibility of some stronger fillings there. You may agree with this, or not, but Stockholm Syndrome is a really dumb argument.
I honestly think 98% of folks who say it was Stockholm Syndrome are either simply jealous (“My precious Orihime can’t like this jerkass bastard, she belongs to Ichigo!!11” or smth like that), or want to show they know this term (“me knows clever words”) %))
